Color has the unique ability to evoke emotions. Depending on the color, a person may feel a sense of nostalgia and of comfort. That’s why many people choose a specific shade of paint for their homes.
Of course, painting doesn’t have to a renovation. A well-placed accent or update can revive furniture or an heirloom piece.

This year, Krylon has selected Spanish Moss, a rich green shade, as its 2023 Color of the Year. Spansih Moss is part of the Krylon Fusion All-In-One line, which delivers premium adhesion, durability and rust protection on surfaces ranging from wood and metal to plastic, ceramics and wicker.
Banbury observed that Spanish Moss evokes a sense of comfort and heritage.
“We are always looking at what people are feeling, and we notice that the overall feeling of comfort is so important,” Banbury noted. “They are looking at past design, a heritage style, that gave them a sense of contentment, but making it more of an individual look that makes the piece feel more modern and individual.
“With Spanish Moss, we were able to craft a color that fits what people are interested in,” added Banbury. “Increasingly growing in popularity, this heritage trend style pairs perfectly with the 2023 Color of the Year’s nod to the natural world.”
Spanish Moss is a versatile green with some gray undertones, and can be paired with many other colors and textures. Metallic Hammered Gold, Textured Sandstone, Metallic Copper and Gloss Clear are among the complementary colors to Spanish Moss.
“Spanish Moss embodies consumers’ ongoing fascination with caring for and enjoying the environment and speaks to the sustainability movement as well,” Banbury pointed out. “It’s inspiring at-home creatives, while offering a dose of nostalgia and familiarity at the same time, especially when paired with complementary colors like gold, sandstone and copper, that also give a textural nod to nature.
“Spanish Moss has a matte finish to it and can be paired really well with different textures and sheens, such as gold metallics, and it also brings a sense of softness to the home like sandstone textures,” Banbury added. “It really helps with the raw beauty of the piece that is being spray painted. It highlights the nice shape of the heirloom pieces, and it is ideal for upcycling and reviving old pieces with spray paint.”

“Even though greens are popular, it is continuing to evolve as to how people are using it in their home,” Banbury said. “Last year’s color was Satin Rolling Surf, a nice calming blue color, and people love natural hues. Comfort is something that people have really loved the last few years.”
